The two most important people in my life are both out of the country, and another of the top four is about to be in another state. I, on the other hand, have no social life. It gets harder to do the things you ought to be doing when there’s nobody around to talk to while you do them. Lack of interaction = lack of outside validation, which is not good for the psyche.

I think I’ve moved downward on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. A successful day is one in which I can keep my thoughts in control instead of being caught up in anxiety or loneliness; forget intellectuality and changing the world. I’m so unsocialized. Anyone want to give me a meaningful volunteer position and get me out of the house?

I’ve been writing a journal on gendering in my life for my psych of women class and have just realized how awesome Brooke’s and my upbringing has been.

All our Barbies were paraplegics by the time we hit middle school.

We didn’t know we were supposed to dress them up and brush their hair.

We threw them off the balcony to see how far they’d fall.

Man, we were the coolest kids ever.

Thanks, Mom!

Brooke said something hilarious today that I promised to put on the internet, and now I can’t remember what it was. Remind me if you remember, Pookie…

I’ve been a vegetable the past few days and it has been excellent, but it is now time to convince myself to return to useful and productive society. Alas!

Happy new year, kids. Post of further substance or entertainment value forthcoming. Bring your own beverage and wear your seatbelt.

This is a copy-paste from a Facebook note [sorry!] – I’m just amazed at the networking going on online for the upcoming Presidential election and wanted to share:

Seeing as this is the most crazily internetty election of ever, I’m taking advantage of this new level of accessibility to educate myself more thoroughly than I’ve been able to in any other election. This is the best educational tool I’ve found:

http://www.dehp.net/candidate/index.php

Mark your views on the issues and the weight you accord to each; the site will match you with the candidates in order by the extent to which they share your views. This was truly an eye-opening experience for me – the site includes several lesser-known candidates whose views came as a pleasant surprise. :)

So check it out if you’re as confused by these smooth talkers as I am – not that I would ask you to base your vote on an internet quiz, but this is a great starting point to research candidates who share your views. You may be as surprised as I was at the result.

In other news, Lance’s family and mine got together tonight at the Cracker Barrel to have Christmas. It was so good to see him – with us being together so much at school, sometimes I really feel like we’re already grown and married, and it’s always a rude awakening to go home for a break and remember that he actually lives 100 miles away. I love being with my family, and I see them far less often than I do him, so I treasure the ability to come home, but I do still wish I could have everyone I love all in one place!

I love trading gifts, and I’m so excited about some of the ones I have for this Christmas. I’ve been going the artsy-fartsy road lately and making personalized notecards for people. I gave Lance’s mom a set of 10 kind of “wild card” themed cards tonight, and I’m almost done with an equestrian-themed set of 8 for Aynsley. It’s fun when people don’t believe I made them myself. :)

Here be gingerbread, arr.

Today Brooke and I made a kick-ass gingerbread house and pissed off the far right. What more could one ask for in a December Friday?

I also got to hang out with Aynsley, my best friend back home, which was great because it’s been a while – like the semester or maybe even the year – since we really had time to reconnect. (“That’s a kicker!”)  Nothing like awful suburban pre-Christmas traffic for conversation.

I still can’t quite figure it out that it’s, like, 3 days until Christmas. What the poo. But I’m reading a really creepy Agatha Christie book, so I guess it all evens out.
